There are three ways to install an EPDM roofing membrane. First, in an adhered system, in which the roofing membrane is glued directly to the surface below it. There's also a mechanically fastened system that uses fasteners that are screwed through the membrane, insulation, and into the roof deck to secure it in place. The final method is called the ballasted system involves laying the membrane over the insulation and weighing it down with river stones or concrete pavers.
